BODY-AGE GURU

Your Blog Dedicated to a Better Quality of Life

“How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?” – Satchel Paige

Most of us by the time we get to about 40 already feel younger than our age. But what if your “real” age was determined by your biological age not your chronological age, and that it was within your power to bring this more into line with how old you feel?

Chronological age is quite simply how many years it’s been since the date of your birth. Your biological body-age however is based on the concept that actual ageing occurs only partially as an effect of time on the body. Body-age also factors that cells and tissues in the body are systematically damaged due to accumulation of toxins, stress, or disease. Much of this is reversible.

The idea for this blog started in 2018 when I heard about Emile Ratelband, a then 69 year old Dutch gentleman, who wanted to legally change his birth date because of the ageist discrimination he was facing when he felt like - and his biological body age was testing at - 42 years old.

Around that time my sister dragged me to a health spa in Poland, where they tested the body ages of all the “inmates”. It was striking that those of us who had a classically healthier lifestyle - lots of veg, few processed foods, exercised regularly, and meditated - had substantially lower body ages relative to our chronological ages. Those who were there in order to gain inspiration and fitness had body ages that were higher than their real ages.

There’s a lot we can do to influence our body age and there’s a lot we can do to mitigate, and even reverse, the damage already caused to the cells. We strive to have a better quality of life through lifestyle habits like good nutrition, exercise, stress management, relaxation techniques and meditation. Same old same old? Yes but now we can get some measure of it, it helps to give that extra incentive to actually do it.

This is Your blog. Each of us has stories and practices we’ve grown up with or garnered over the course of our lives which help to keep you fitter, more vital, more connected, more at peace - whether it’s grandma’s concoctions and tips of the secret to a long and happy life, or your own experiences of things you do, eat, breathe, or burn that help bring that magic and grace into your life. We’d love for you to share these!*

Living a quality of life that allows you to be free to enjoy more of what you love… for longer

The first three posts by rights belong to centenarians Bernard LaPallo who managed to stay fit and healthy to a remarkable 114 years of life, Fauja Singh who ran a 42km marathon at the age of 100 in less than 8.5 hours, and a whole community in Okinawa who manage a fit and active lifestyle in their late 90’s and early 100’s and has triggered a spate of research on “The Okinawa Diet”.

I hope you find them as inspirational as I did!
